New Attacks on Embassies in Wake of Anti-Islamic Film
by Julian Borger
A wave of anger that saw British, German and American embassies in Khartoum
attacked by rioters swept across the Muslim world with violent scenes
playing out on streets from north Africa to south-east Asia.
The continuing demonstrations have claimed further lives. Two protesters
were killed in Khartoum, Sudan and two more in Tunis, Tunisia. Four were
killed in the Yemeni capital of Sana'a.
Police in Cairo cleared demonstrators from outside the American embassy and
Tahrir Square. A 36-year old man died after being hit by a rubber bullet
In Sydney around 200 demonstrators clashed with police outside the American
consulate.
Friday's worst violence was in the Sudanese capital, where protesters
targeted the German embassy first, storming through the outer wall and
setting fire to buildings and a car near the gates before they were pushed
back by police firing teargas. German diplomats fled to the British embassy
next door, which became the next target of the mob. . . .
[And the epidemic of anti-American riots across the Muslim world, with Arab
Spring elections bringing to power Islamist regimes, testify to the real
truth. After four years of Obama, it is America that is on the run in the
Middle East.--Patrick J. Buchanan, "Behind the Benghazi Cover-Up," antiwar.com, October
